Spice market update: rainfall causes massive crop damage

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin

Cumin prices have skyrocketed over the past week, and for good reason. Heavy rain and hailstorms have hit the growing areas and the Ministry of Agriculture reports major damage; up to 60% of the crop is said to have been affected, with damage occurring on 120,000 hectares of cultivated land. Meanwhile, the new crop is reaching the markets and meeting high demand, so prices are likely to rise even further. Cumin, grade A costs USD 4,510/mt FOB India this week.
