Chickpeas: questionable yield decline in Canada

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. According to the latest data from StatsCan, the chickpea acreage in Canada is said to have increased, but at the same time yields are said to be surprisingly low; not all market players agree with that. In India, there have been slight price declines.

Temporary price reductions

After the price increases of the last few weeks, the Indian chickpea market has now seen slight declines. Trade is currently slightly subdued, but traders expect it to pick up soon. Prices had risen markedly in recent weeks, leading to high profit-taking and now a temporary downward trend. Market players are not concerned about this development so far, as international prices remain high and availability in local Indian markets is tight.
