Chickpeas: price rally stopped for now

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Prices of Indian chickpeas were on an upward trend for months - now there have been slight declines, which are, however, not likely to last. In Canada, crop prospects remain uncertain.

Low imports expected

After chickpea prices had risen steadily over the past few months, resulting in a growth of almost 12% since the beginning of the year, they have now fallen slightly compared to last week. However, market experts expect this to be a temporary phenomenon and the upward trend to continue soon. Domestic demand on the Delhi spot market continues to be stable, with very good quality chickpeas in particular in demand.
