Chickpeas: NAFED purchases exceed expectations

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. NAFED has again purchased large quantities of chickpeas in India, much to the relief of growers. In Canada, the situation remains unclear, but much points to harvest delays.

Breathing space for growers

Purchases by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), which has once again bought Chana chickpeas at the minimum support price (MSP), have exceeded the expectations of Indian market players. In the current Rabi season, the federation has already purchased 2.321 million mt of chickpeas, compared to 2.59 million mt in the whole of last year.
