Chickpeas: moderate price declines

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Although arrivals are picking up in India, limited supplies are preventing sharp price declines for chickpeas. Prospects for the new crop are highly encouraging.

Holi subdues trading

The pressure is on as arrivals are picking up but prices are only declining slowly as stocks are very much limited. Around 800-1,000 bags are arriving per day. While trading was rather restricted over Holi last week, things are now back to normal. Domestic demand ranges lower at present, which will change once the wedding season starts at the end of April. Production should also rise from last year's 15 million mt to 21 million mt this year. Export demand is also weak, but traders point out that this normally changes again at the end of Apr
