NEW DELHI. The way the Indian chickpea market develops in the near future depends largely on what the government plans to do with its remaining stocks. However, there is already good news for farmers.

Minimum support price to be increased

After a prolonged period of declining or stagnant chickpea prices, traders are now seeing an increase of around USD 30/mt for the first time again. While buying interest did not experience the hoped-for upward trend in the course of various Indian festivities, sales increased before the Diwali festival; especially retailers stocked up.
