Chickpeas: expected price increases in North America

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. The upward trend for Indian commodity prices has been halted for the time being, which also affects export prices. Meanwhile, price increases are expected in Canada and Mexico, not least because Russia's exports are likely to decline significantly.

Indian export prices decline

The continuing upward trend in farmgate prices for Indian chickpeas was interrupted last week and has not yet been able to recover this week; on the contrary, there were further price reductions of about USD 0.10/kg. However, market experts expect these declines to be short-lived, as there is already a gap between supply and demand and buying interest should therefore increase soon.
