Chickpeas: EU ups spending in 2023/2024

NEW DELHI/BRUSSELS. Rabi sowing is in full swing for chickpeas in India. As demand is high and prices are attractive this may prompt an uprise. EU chickpea imports have surged to a record high.

Prices to remain high

Domestic demand is high in India as traders report and prices are up. Export quotations have, in fact, surged since March. Rayglen Commodities, in addition, state that domestic prices are high in Mexico, which may increase growing interest here as well. Exports from Canada have gained momentum, mainly to the US. Yet, India is also buying volumes from here unusually early in the season. This will certainly impact stocks and should drive up prices.
