Chickpeas: demand leaves much to be desired

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Despite tight supply, Indian chickpea traders complain that there is not enough buying interest. This is also true for other pulses. In Canada, however, demand is expected to increase.

Quiet pulse markets in India

Despite the fact that goods are becoming increasingly scarce on the Indian chickpea market, the buying frenzy hoped for by traders has failed to materialise for the time being. In the four most important growing states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, stocks are shrinking noticeably, but price increases remain moderate at USD 20/mt.
