Chickpeas: demand from China increased massively

NEW DELHI/BRUSSELS. Indian market players are delighted with China's great buying interest, which includes chickpeas as well as other pulses. Meanwhile, EU imports have increased only slightly in terms of volume, while the development of the import value is remarkable.

Exciting development for the Indian market

In the Indian chickpea market, growers and exporters are currently rejoicing, as China has stocked up with large quantities, keeping prices relatively stable. According to the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Indian pulses worth USD 102.41 million were shipped to China from April 2022 to January 2023, up 15% from exports worth USD 89.03 million in the same period last year.
