Chickpeas: new crop sells only slowly

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. As buyers are not yet satisfied with the quality and moisture content of the new Indian chickpea crop, sales here are currently sluggish. In Canada and the USA, a considerable increase in acreage is expected.

Prices rise again

Demand for chickpeas in India has grown steadily in recent years. The main reason for this, according to market players, is that health consciousness is becoming more and more important and pulses are therefore in greater demand worldwide. India is one of the largest producers and exporters, with production taking place mainly in the four most important growing states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
