Chickpeas: Canada hopes for rain

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. In the growing regions of western Canada, chickpea growers are hoping for rainfall as drought is adversely affecting yields. In India, there continues to be a shortage of high quality chickpeas.

Prices continue to rise

The shortage of chickpeas on the Indian markets is ensuring that prices maintain their upward trend and have risen again by USD 10/mt week-on-week. Demand is high and exporters must continue to buy diligently to fulfil their contracts, so no price declines are expected in the near future. Indian market players also report that arrivals this season are the lowest they have been in five years.
